Questions and answers

Everything about pinning, verifying and finding local chats.

What is Veembly?

Veembly is a map of local chat communities. People pin public group chats, channels and servers to the neighbourhood where their community meets, so others nearby can find and join them.

Which messengers are supported?

Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord, Signal, Messenger, Viber, WeChat, LINE, KakaoTalk, Matrix and Slack. Only public invite links of these messengers can be pinned. A community's own website can be pinned too.

Is it free?

Yes. Browsing the map, pinning and verifying group chats is free. Channels and websites are paid pins, free while Veembly is in beta.

How do I pin a chat?

Press “Pin a chat”, sign in, paste the chat's public invite link, choose its category and language and tap the place on the map where the community meets. The name and the picture are read from the chat itself.

Why can I not rename my pin?

A pin always shows the chat's own name, picture and description, so nobody can make a chat look like something it is not. Change them in the messenger, then press “Refresh chat details” on your pins page.

How do I prove that I run a chat?

Start a verification on the pin and you get a personal code. Put it into the chat's public description (the group name for WhatsApp), press “Check now”, and the pin becomes verified and yours. You can remove the code afterwards.

Someone else pinned my chat. What can I do?

Verify it. Whoever proves last that they run a chat becomes the owner of its pin, the previous owner stays in the pin's history.

Why is a pin not at an exact address?

Pins are rounded to about 100 metres on purpose. A pin marks the neighbourhood where a community meets, never somebody's home.

How do I report a pin?

Open the pin and press “Report”. Reports are anonymous. When several people report a chat as a scam, hateful, sexual or illegal, the pin is hidden until a moderator looks at it.

How do I delete my pin or my account?

Remove a pin from your pins page. To delete your account and everything linked to it, write to [email protected] from the email you sign in with.
